Hello everyone, we have some beautiful pencil drawings just come in by the well known & collected Saddleworth artist Russell Howarth.
Russell was born in 1927 in Oldham where he still lives. He left school in 1941 and from there he left to work in engineering up until 1981, which he then taught part time until 1992.
Eventhough Russell had no formal art education, he joined Saddleworth Group of Artists in 1951. Russell mainly paints and draws Saddleworth Landscapes, with many of his paintings in private collections in the UK and abroad.
If anyone is interested in purchasing these wonderful original drawings, please email, call or pop in to the gallery. Pencil, 6 x 5 inches, £120 each.
Keep an eye out for our April window display if you are a fan of landscape photography :).
Rob Fitzhugh, who is based here in Stalybridge, will be displaying his images throughout April at The People’s Gallery. Rob uses a combination of multiple shots to create the final panoramic image to full effect. Pop along to have a closer look at Rob’s fantastic work!
We are very excited to be soon hosting an exhibition by the fantastic Manchester based marquetry artist Ian Smith. Ian’s website (The Marquetry Shack) contains all the information about his craft, and we are proud to exhibiting a selection of his works here at The People’s Gallery. No excuses for you all not to pop along!
Who’s coming to see Chris Cyprus‘s Northern Lights exhibition this weekend at Contemporary Six? We will all be popping along to support Chris, and we hope to see you all there! The exhibition is a celebration of a decade of Chris’s paintings, and will no doubt be a great success! 🙂
Each artist specialises in a different field – Kevin is character-based, Cliff is urban, and Rob is the local landscape. We’ll post more information nearer the time, please keep an eye out for dates. We hope you all come along and support the local creative community! 🙂
Great support for local artists this week, as another commission was finished and sold at The People’s Gallery, this time by resident artist Gordon Clegg. Gordon’s bespoke landscape (the painting is looking across the hills from Hobson Moor Road.) will be one of a series commissioned of the local scenery. If you are interested in artwork by Gordon please call the gallery.
In addition, if you would like to commission any of our artists to create a painting for you, please see the links page and inquire by email or pop in for a quote.
